H4 Xenon lights: What to look for?
What information do I look for when buying H4 xenon headlight?
I do a lot of motorcycle riding at night. I'm sick of drivers coming out of intersections, as if they expect me to be able to stop or swerve around them. I want to make my bike so bright (maybe to a point that it's annoying), they got no excuse as to they can't see me. So I'm thinking super bright white glowing headlights.
In my motorcycle manual, it says the headlights are rated at 12V 30W/30W. I can't find anything that are below 12V 55W.
So, I found some light on ebay that are H4, xenon, 5000k (white color), 12V, 100W/55W. Are they the best one to buy?
If someone has a good website that sells H4 lights, that would be helpful too.
A couple of quick pointers:
- those "xenons" are just standard bulbs that give a whiter light.
- the whiter light actually provides LESS illumination per watt
- what you're looking for is a High Intensity Discharge Bulb (see here http://www.hidstores.com/store/motorcycle-hid-xenon-conversion-kits-c6.html) - note that you will need a conversion kit (including ballast etc.
- if you put a 55/100W bulb in your enclosure, it may melt the wires/enclosure before blowing halfway through a ride. Too much current draw for stock wiring, too much heat for the enclosure, and you will piss off other road users no end.
