can an o-ring be used to replace a seal?
it's actually for a steamer. the seal broke. not sure if it's some sort of thermostat or just a seal. so far , at home depot, an o-ring is the only thing i could find compareable. the seal was orange, the o-ring is black if that makes any difference.
I wouldn't advise it.Black "O" rings are chemical resistant,but go brittle after a while.Blue,or green ones,are usually used in air conditioning and not suitable in high heat applications.Brown or red,are usually hard material and not flexible enough for changing temperatures.If you can't find the right gasket,buy a sheet of gasket material "Vico-tech" which is black and cut your own gasket,at any auto parts store,or use the red or orange gasket sealer instead.It is labelled High Temp RTV.
