does 93 Mazda protege dx 1.8l dohc have a non- interference motor?
need to know because timing belt broke and don't want to waste any money if i will have to just replace whole motor
If you have the DX, you have the SOHC engine. If you you have the DOHC, you have an LX. fortunately, Mazda engines are non interference. Just replace the belt and go. Also, have the waterpump changed when you do. The mechanic told me that it was recommended on a 91 Mazda Protege that I had. the car had 120,000 miles on it at the time so i said "No, I'll change it next time." However, 11,000 miles later gthe waterpump went and I had to pay all of that labor again. Make sure you have the waterpump changed when the timing belt is being changed.
