Exhaust Flange / Gasket Problem (CB500)?
I am trying to fix the exhaust gasket on my CB500 which blew last week. At the moment the flange is very loose against the pipe, which means I can't tighten it enough to push the pipe up against the gasket sufficiently. I have been told by my local motorcycle dealer that I am missing two half moon clips which fit underneath the flange against the pipe. I assume these blew off when the old gasket blew.
They have told me both the clips and the flange (the flange is quite rusty and possibly worn) come only as a set with the downpipes and that I would have to buy a new set of downpipes just to get either the flange or the clips. The flange I can believe because you cannot get the flange off the pipe (its probably been welded on), but surely the clips are sold as a spare part? If not what is the correct name for them, i.e. are they sold anywhere such as ebay, new or used? If not is there is a work around for getting the flange to hold the gasket?
