HOVERCRAFTS...... need help?
I am making a hovercraft model for my science exhibition. The only problem is i need a source of air ( please do not suggest balloon or vacuum cleaner ) which is powerful enough to lift my hovercraft. The hovercraft is not much larger than a C.D. Will an electric motor(with a fan attached to it) work? I saw that sort of motor in a coast guard hovercraft ( watch here : http://www.hov-pod.co.uk/photo/workpod/commercial%20hovercraft.jpg ) but the fans were really big and seemed very powerful. What alternative can i use ??
I have an rc ufo thing at home. It uses small propellers (they were about 1-2cm long.) to generate lift. You can find small propellers from hobby stores as you can buy spare parts that are used for small helicopters and these should work. I recommend that if you make this hovercraft use polystyrene as it is strong and durable yet light and efficient and it is easy to work with.
