oxygen sensor replacement 97 mazda 626?
The exhaust oxygen sensor needs to be replaced. Anyone have an estimate of the cost? The OEM sensor costs $260.00 but i can buy one that fits for $65.00 and have someone else do it right? Will shops do that or do they want OEM parts?

An O2 sensor is an O2 sensor. No matter what car it is the oxygen sensor measures oxygen and sends its readings to the computer where the computer makes the changes necessary to keep the car running correctly. So in other words a 50 dollar universal O2 sensor will work just fine. Make sure you get one that is four wire though because your car being obd2 will have a heated o2 sensor. The universal one listed under any parts counter should have that already. Connecting the universal one to the existing harness is pretty easy as well because the four wires are all color coated and the kit comes with wire connectors. This should be a project that will only take you about a half hour as long as the o2 sensor comes out okay. Good luck.
