What do you think about my new idea with the 283?
What do you think if i took my fathers 283 with Edelbrock highrise with edelbrock carb, and 2 speed powerglide and put them both in my 1982 Mazda rx7? I pretty much know how im going to do it the driveshafts will have to be split and welded together and the original radiator and fan box will have to be removed in order to make room for the 283. Plus make new motor mounts, which will be the original mounts on the motor welded to the frame and weld 2 chains also to the frame from the motor! Good idea or do you think I will rip the car in half?
I believe the rx7 has somewhere around a 3.90:1 gear ratio. You will be looking at 3500+ rpm at highway speeds. If you want this to be a driver at all, consider an overdrive transmission. This swap has been done quite often. Do a search to find loads of good info. I drive a 78 280z with a 383 and world class t5 trans. Stock r200 rear end with no problems for 3 years. It can be made to work well, just take your time and don't cut corners. Remember when doing a swap of this nature, almost every system in the car will have to be modified in some way. good luck
