Is it safe to remove a heat shield from a 94 chrysler new yorker?
I have a 94 new yorker and the other day it started making a rattiling sound near the catalytic convertor but only when the car is in drive and the a/c is on. I had a 96 Taurus that did this as well. Any suggestions?

Doesn't sound like a heat shield to me, I would get under the vehicle and look for a broken heat shield. On a '94 New Yorker, they would be above the exhaust system mounted to the floor pan. They do have a tendency to rust at the mountings and flop around hitting stuff. If none seem loose, then take a rubber hammer or the side of your fist and hit the Catalytic converter with medium force. If it rattles, then it is broken internally.
