This car is a bad candidate for an aftermarket exhaust system for the following factors:
- this small and otherwise badly designed engine uses pretty low back pressure on the exhaust. If you reduce the back pressure, you will lose some power instead of gaining it because it's primitive EGR system combined with the computer that gets oxygen reading from the cat will not be able to maintain the optimal mixture that way and there is no way to re-programme it.
- the engine sound will be bad. In order to get good sound from the exhaust you need to have a good sounding engine. The engines on the high performance cars that made for good sound use higher compression and higher back pressure combined with specific exhaust porting on the head to provide a good tone. This car does not have it. Remember that louder does not mean better.
- It is not cost effective. There is nothing you can gain with aftermarket exhaust for this car so there is no need to bother. In order to make it sound better, you will need to modify the head, valvetrain, new headers and all new software to take advantage in the exhaust - a small cheap commuter like this one is no candidate for this type of job.
