Is 97,700 miles too much for a 2004 Mazda RX-8 if it's in good condition?
I really want the car and I'm not totally sure how it will hold up after around 19,500 miles per year for the last 5 years
Unless you're very good at rotary engine mechanicals or have the money for a fresh motor you might want to pass on this.
The new Renesis rotary engine can last 200K+ miles...if properly cared for. If you know the previous owner and know that they took proper care of the engine then you might be Ok. It's just a good assumption that if you're buying a used rotary-engined car you *may* need a motor rebuild.
Also, Mazda has a great motor warranty on the RX8...8 year/100K miles. The problem here is that you're almost at the end of that warranty. This is probably why the car is being sold.
If the car is a really good price and you're able to hold $2000 aside for a motor rebuild/replacement then go for it.
