HID confusion need help?
ive been looking to add a bit more "punch" to my high beams since i do a lot of night driving, but a little foray into it i found terms like "4300K Xtreme HID" in H1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 wtf?, now i found out that the 4300K is the temp range and the light, but wtf is this "H" crap all about?
so far my high beams are 130w Hallogens with a blue filter and they are CRAP!! (hallogen with blue filters = Dangerous!). my low beam + high beams are diffrent bulbs in diffrent sections of the headlight btw so im only interested in High beam.
and what is the brightest HID i can get? Eg any such thing as a 100w HID?
Go back to basics, Kelvin is the colour of the bulb,
basically the higher the number the Less output the bulb can project through the glass 4300k is a comfortable light slightly blue but excellent throw,
Wattage is the amount of power the bulb will use and require.
For example 50watts will use less power then 100watts. If you can get 100watts to the bulb it will be brighter then 55watts.
But the main thing everyone forgets is that the more wattage you use the more heat is produced. Plastic lenses that are recommended to hold 55w should not use 100w because they will melt. The other thing to remember is that all your wiring is conductive otherwise it wouldn't work so Heat will be transfered gradually through your wiring so if it doesn't melt the lense it may melt something else along the line if you sue the wrong gauge of cable.
35watt hids in a low kelvin colour will be much brighter then a 130watt halogen.
There are heaps of arguments about putting Hid bulbs into halogen lamp assys as they become dazzling to oncoming traffic. But for high beam you shouldn't have a problem, HiD in a halogen light assy will through light absolutely everywhere, wont project as well but its like daytime.
Ideally you need a projector assy to put the hid in to get a spot beam. Blue will naturally reflect more then yellow hence why blue filters are crap in headlights.
I used to work for a major automotive lighting company and i learn everything from them. Blue is only there for people to go ohhh pretty not ohh functional.
