Is it possible to put different type light bulbs in a 1991 OEM civic?
I would like to get better lighting with new bulbs, possibly halogen or whatever it takes, but do not want to spend the money on new light fixtures or ballasts. Could new bulbs of any different type ever work?
Your best option is to replace the stock bulbs with a xenon, or some other 'bright' bulb. You can get them at any NAPA or Carquest and they are only a few $ more than standard bulbs. And, they plug right into the stock harness, so no modification.
You can also have the plastic headlight covers polished, which will not bring it back to like new, but I have seen vast improvements.
Just remember when you are changing the bulbs, DON'T touch the glass part of the bulb with your fingers. The oils from your fingers will boil when the bulb is turned on and break the light.
