i am planning to buy a mazda6 2.3L V4 DOHC car, and i did some research on the vehicle and am not sure about who makes the engine and transmission (is it ford or mazda??). Guys please help me on this. I am going nuts.
With absolute certainity, it is made in japan by mazda. The entire car is made in japan. I've had a 2006 mazda3s 5 door since april,2006 and love it. handles like it's on rails(I live on a roller coaster in the country-2 lane hilly and curvy) I've pushed it to the limits and it's never done anything scary(I scrubbed 1/32" off front tires in two months).
I got 27.5mpg with stock setup. At 6,000 miles I put K&N air filter(stock replacement(not cold air unit) and I heard the intake(I've been using K&N for 35 years on bikes, trucks, and cars, and I can hear the difference).
My mileage dropped to 24.5mpg. I called K&N and they told me that I needed to reset the computer. This is accomplished by taking the negative cable off the battery FOR AT LEAST 2 HOURS. according to K&N it takes this long for the battery and reserve batteries to run down, thereby allowing the computer to reset when the battery cable is reconnected. My experience with K&N air filters has been that I can expect from 1 to 3 mpg increase in mileage and a slight increase in power from improved breathing. I have not run a tank of gas through the car since the battery cable thing so I don't know about mileage, but K&N was not surprised at my question. They said the new fuel injected stuff had to have the cable disconnected to reset the computer.
