Question about car speakers, amplifier and head unit.?
I have a couple of questions but first this is some back round on the system that i want to get.A pair of 6X9 polk audio speaker running at 125W RMS in the front and 6 1/2 polk audio speakers running at 100W RMS in the back with an 8' sub running at 250W RMS all powered by a 500W AMP and a 300W AMP --> I have an 06 honda civic coupe EX
1. Do I need to change the Head Unit? I really like the look of the stock head unit.I know that it is recommended but is it absolutely necessary?
2.If I don't change it, what are some of the problems that I may encounter either right now or in the future?
3. Can the wattage being output by the amp be regulated? For instance if the specs say that it can push 75W at 2ohms per channel. Can the technician change that output to a lower wattage so that it doesn't blow out the speakers?
The more detailed you are the better. Thanks a bunch
First off .. I would recommend dropping the mid/high amp and buying a good head unit instead . But that said :
1 . No but it means running a high level input into the amps and that isn't good for mids/highs due to extra hiss from the signal being amplified twice . once in the radio bc you are using the amplified speaker output as an input signal to the new amp . not good for mids .
2 . No real problems other than Ive said.
3 . No . You have a gain... but that has limits especially with high level input . Best find an amp to match the speakers - even somewhat under the power rating of the speakers . 50 watts RMS will give any mid all it wants .
