i think it is really hard and i have no idea of how to solve it. can someone please help me, and teach me how to solve the problem please?
ok this is how it goes:
In a football game the quarter back is 15 yards away from making a first down and is running at 264 yards per minute. After 0.03 of a minute, a linebacker who is 15 yards on the opposite side of the first down marker begins running directly towards the quarterback at 440 yards per minute. Will the linebacker be able to tackle the quarterback before he gets the first down?
find the time it takes the quarter back to run 15 yards.
The linebacker starts to run after .03 minutes. That gives the quarter back some times to run a certain distance.
distance = speed * time
distance = 264 (.03)
distance = 7.92 yard
That means the linebacker starts to run when the quarter back is 15 - 7.92 = 7.08 yard away from the marker.
Find the time it takes the quarter back to run 7.08 yard and the the time it takes the linebacker to run 15 yards
quarter back:
7.08 = 264 * t
t =~ .02681 min or about 1.6 sec
linebacker:
15 = 440t
t = .03409 min or about 2.04sec
conclusion: No, the linebacker can not tackle the quarter back in time
