why my volt gauge doesn't read between the actual rating?
I got a SUN PROO Volt gauge in my 1986 Ford F-150. When I bought the gauge i read directions and the directions said volt gauge should read between 14 volts and 16 volts. But at idle it reads between 12 volts and 13 volts. Then when I turn on the headlights and heater it drops. I got ground wire hooked up and the hot wire goes into fuse panel.....OH it has a new altanator and battery.
That sounds mostly about normal. Alternators generate most of their electricity starting at about 1500 RPM. You will need to check the voltage again around there.
