what if i put h3 100w in my stock 55w fog lights?
i have a mk3 and if i put a 100w bulb in my stock wiring will it fry the wires?
This is kind of a trial and error thing. Im not saying just plug it in and go, but you can try it safely. I have upgraded like you are doing here but not with that vehicle so I cant give you a yes or no on yours. First if your foglight lenses are plastic, I wouldnt reccomend it. More than likely you'll end up either melting your lens, or it'll start fading really bad. If you have glass lenses though, or are not worried about your plastic ones too much( usually the thicker plastic lenses are ok), then you can try your bulbs BUT you need to grab the foglight wire with them on and keep checking it after how ever many minutes. I would do this in at least a 5 minute interval for the first 20 minutes, then about every 10 minutes up to an hour. Might be something to try while on a cruise unless you have a really good battery or you dont mind sitting in one spot with the car running for an hour. This is just a kind of idiot proof way of checking, even though if the bulbs are too much for the wiring, it SHOULD blow the fuse. They dont always rate the fuses/wires right either thats why I say keep reaching in there and actually grab onto the wires to make sure theyre not heating up too much. Really shouldnt be heating up at all, but some do draw enough power stock to do that. Also make sure your not confusing the heat with normal heat of the car running. Check your wires with the current bulbs after about an hour with them being on before you change out and try the other ones. Safest way to do it. I personally have never had a problem upgrading to 100 watt though but just to be safe... Always better to check and recheck than replace or put out small fires.
