Why is the fuel economy on my Mazda rx8 so much lower than what is listed?
Mazda claims 16 for city and 22 for highway (MPG). The lowest numbers I've seen online are about 13 and 14 MPG. Mine is about 10 MPG, any ideas as to why?

I get 15-18mpg city depending how I drive, and on my last 700 mile trip I averaged 22 mpg all highway. I checked my mpg every fill up.
If your getting 10 mpg thats not all to do with your driving. I "drive it like I stole it" and still get reasonable mpg, much more than you. Check your cat and make sure its not clogged.
When was the last time you replaced your spark plugs and ignition coils? The coils on the rx8 are crap and can go out in >20k miles, but usually last at least 40k or so. Look into upgrading to BHR ignition coils and never worry about them again.
Your spark plugs should be changed around every 30k miles, it only costs you $80 for the plugs and its well worth it. The dealer would charge you much more, though.
