How to repair knock sensor in 2002 Mazda Millenia?
The dealer is asking a ridiculous price--I think they're trying to put one over on me. I can find a local guy to do the repairs and buy the parts---but I haven't been able to find info online that tells me "where" the sensor is actually located. Any auto guys have access to a drawing or steps to take to repair the sensor? Thanx!
Sorry-should have said "replace"-not "repair" I know that it needs replaced, but the local dealer wants almost $300 in labor to put in that little sensor--plus $215 for the part!
To test a knock sensor, tap on the engine while it is running. Tap on something like an engine hanger, nothing fragile. Use a small hammer. If the sensor is working correctly, the engine should slow down because the timing is being retarded. The sensor on the models I remember was screwed into the block, sort of like a big fat bolt, with a wire coming out of it. If the car is getting a code (check engine code) for the sensor, it might just be disconnected.
There are some Mazda only wrecking yards. You might be able to get the sensor through them. Check the Los Angeles phone book.
