Xenon h-13/9008 H/L Question?
I purchased a H-13/9008 H/L kit for my 2006 Ford Explorer. It is the H13-2 kit that is the Xenon low beam and the halogen high beam. Now when I plug the low beam (suppose to be xenon) into the low beam plug, it will not ignite, but when i put it in the high beam it works fine. Now when I plug the halogen (suppose to be high beam) into either the high or the low it works fine. What could be causing this? If the Xenon is only pulling 35w, why does it only seem to work with the high beam? Thanks.
First off, im assuming your talking about the types of "HID" bulbs that have halogen coild for high beams.
"xenon" is a halogen, and a xenon bulb is a halogen bulb, while HIDs are HIDs
For future refference....halogens=incandescent coil in a gas filled tube
HIDs =a high voltage arc of plasma in a glass filled tube
HIDs require a controlling unit the regulates the voltage to the bulb, the voltage required to generate the arc of plasma inside the bulb is very high, and to maintiain the arc, whiel it is less, is still very high in the thousands of volts, the controller, breifly creates a very strong eletrical pules, then lowers the voltage slightly to maintain the arc of plasma.
If the bulb isnt working the way you described, i woudl assume, you did not hook up the controller properly, or you simply are not hooking up the controller at all.
If thats not the case, the bulb/ or controller is defective.
Testing for a defective controller may be dangerous and should be avoided, unless you can probe low voltage points of the unit, either way, your playing with thousands of volts, and its not a good idea to test it with current running through it.
