How do i read this vintage light meter?
Its a Sunscope Hyper VII, it appears to work fine (the needle moves when you point it at a light source), but since you cant set a F-stop or shutter speed i cant figure out how to read it. Here is a picture http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v444/infiniteohms/sunscope002.jpg
Point the meter at the subject.
Read the value displayed by the needle.
For this example, let's say it points to 5.6.
Set the "ASA Index" opposite the red number 5.6 on the "Light Scale."
Read the possible combinations on the "f-Stops" and "Time" scale.
For instance, if you put ASA 200 opposite 5.6 on the "Light Scale," you could use f/11.0 at 1/50 sec, f/8.0 at 1/100 sec, f/5.6 at about 1/180 sec., and so on.
I don't know if this is an "incident" or "reflectance" meter, so if your exposures seem to be off, instead of aiming the meter at the subject, point it over your shoulder at the light source. An incident meter would probably have a white diffuser over the photocells and a reflectance meter would have a clear glass window. Some meters have a removable white diffuser so you can use them either way.
