Mazda RX8 customized?
I am looking at getting a 2004 Mazda RX8. The first thing I want to do is put a full exhaust system starting from the headers back. I want to do it myself but I was wondering if the Cadalytic Converter was programmed into the ECU therefor making it impossible for me to do it. if anyone could help me that would be great.
The ECU is programmed for the presence of the cat. The fuel map actually is programmed very rich to protect the cat from the higher exhaust temperatures of a rotary.

As for making your own exhaust, there is far more to tuning an exhaust for a naturally aspirated engine than simply slapping on some 3" pipe.
NA exhausts need to be tuned to work with the exhaust pulses of the engine, and are tuned for best flow at certain RPM's to best support torque or HP production. Tuning it wrong can lead to pulses reflecting back up the exhaust hindering exhaust flow and reducing power.
