Ok so I have a 2005 GLI and I wanna upgrade the lights to HID lighting! I'm sick of the weak halogen lighting so I know that the bulb size that I need is a 9007, but I'm contemplating whether I should go with 50 watt or the 35 watt, I went to a place called pro tint and they were saying that the 50 watt ballasts are unreliable, I want just really nice white bright lights with maybe a slight slight hint of blue! I mean the minor hint, so I was wondering if someone that really knows the subject can give me some pointers in what I should look for and what is a really good reliable brand to buy from, I'm looking to spend about 180 max, thanks guys and happy new years
That car is goign to be a pain in the ass to install it to. You would need several resitors and relays to get it working properly if it in fact took the 9007, however, I looked up the 05 vw golf and found it take an H7, in which case its much less painfull.
A regular kit wont work for that car, it will flicker endlessly, you need a canbus compatable kit, and going even further, not all canbus kits work with VW.
I happen to carry modules specifically made for late model VW that will allow you to install to this car, they are different than the normal HID decoder modules you find sold many places, including my website, bottom line is that those dont work for certain VW cars of which your is one of them, you need the special ones, or a canbus ballast. About the 50 watt ballasts, a 50 watt ballast is just as reliable as any 35 watt ballast from the same manufacturer, however, 50 watt hid kits have a much shorter bulb life which sometimes gives the appearance that the ballast is bad because it fails to light after a short period of usage and people blame the ballast.
