DX is the cheapest model. No power windows or power locks or alarm. Wheel with wheel cap. 1.6 Liter engine with 103HP and it gets 34mpg highway.
LX is more expensive. It has power windows and locks. It has cruise control and 15 inch alloy wheels. Has the same engine and gas mileage as the DX.
ES has everything the LX has. It is more expensive. It has a sunroof and 16 inch wheels with rear disc brakes, small rear spoiler and fog lamps. 2.0L engine with 130HP and gets 31mpg highway.
MP3(Mazdaspeed) is the most expensive. It has a 2.0L Turbocharger and makes 170HP and gets 29mpg highway. It is the fastest Protege. It has a completely different bodykit, a bigger spoiler, 17 inch gun metal gray wheels, bigger exhaust system, And white speedometer and gauges. It also has a Momo Shift knob, sport seats, lower and better sport tuned suspension. And Aluminum trim in the interior of the car. Only comes in Manual transmission. And it only comes in Blue, Gray, Yellow, Orange, and Black. Only 2000 were made.
